On September 15, 2023, the China-Cuba Seminar on Promoting the construction of the International Biomedical Optical Diagnosis and Treatment Joint Laboratory was held in our university. CAI Yonglian, Vice President of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Academician Zhuang Songlin, Dean of School of Optoelectronic Information and Computer Engineering and other relevant personnel attended the meeting. CAI Yonglian delivered a speech
On behalf of our university, CAI Yonglian extended a warm welcome to the representatives of the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group, and said in her speech that the university attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange, and has established inter-university cooperation relations with more than 180 universities in more than 30 countries and regions around the world. Since 2018, our school has had many in-depth exchanges and formed preliminary cooperation with the Cuban biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry Group, and has also made certain achievements. The planned joint laboratory is a continuation and deepening of the cooperation and exchanges between the two sides, but also the two sides actively respond to the "Belt and Road" policy and actively implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of China and Cuba. Gerardo Enrique Guillen Nieto, member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, said in his speech that the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group, as the largest state-owned pharmaceutical group in Cuba, More than 30 professional research institutions, including the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the Center for Molecular Immunology, the Center for Immunoanalysis, the Center for Neuroscience and the National Scientific Research Center, have been committed to the development of various drugs and vaccines. He said that the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group has carried out biopharmaceutical cooperation and scientific research cooperation with China, and the two countries will also continue to carry out innovation cooperation in the fields of vaccines and drugs in the future, and look forward to carrying out research and innovation cooperation in medical related fields with the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology to build a new situation of all-round open cooperation and exchanges.

Academician Zhuang Songlin delivered a welcome speech, and introduced the professional setting, disciplinary development and scientific research characteristics of the School of Optoelectronic Information and Computer Engineering, focusing on cutting-edge research such as terahertz technology, nanophotonics, ultrafast optics and life sciences, and has made remarkable achievements. Our optical engineering major has made certain achievements in the field of biomedical optics. Now, with the complementary advantages and resources of the Cuban team, we jointly plan to build the China-Cuba international biomedical optical diagnosis and treatment joint laboratory, and jointly promote the scientific research cooperation between China and Cuba, and contribute to the international research and innovation in the field of biomedical optics.
At the end of the meeting, the participating experts discussed the construction plan of China-Cuba international biomedical optical Diagnosis and Therapy joint laboratory. In recent years, the two sides have continuously deepened exchanges and cooperation, achieved positive results in scientific research, technology transformation and other aspects, and jointly published a number of high-level papers. Therefore, the advantages of the two sides will be combined to strengthen communication and cooperation and collaborative innovation. The joint construction of the international biomedical Optical Diagnosis and Therapy laboratory will focus on the research of optical detection equipment and microfluidic technology in the biomedical field, optical diagnosis and therapy and other emerging medical and industrial cross-research fields.
