Shanghai Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Systems

Introduction to key laboratories:

The Shanghai Key Laboratory of Modern Optics is led by professor Zhuang Songlin, the academic leader of optical engineering (a doctoral station of first-level disciplines), academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chairman of the China Instrument and Control Society, chairman of the Shanghai Instrument and Control Society, and member of the Shanghai CPPCC, director of the key laboratory. The laboratory was approved by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission in 2006. It successfully passed the evaluation and acceptance of the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission in August 2008, November 2011, November 2014 and December 2017. In the 2014 and 2017 assessments, it was awarded “Excellent” and ranked first in the engineering field. Through evaluation to promote development, the laboratory will further strengthen the construction of scientific research bases, connect with international standards, gather top talents, innovate management models, and help build high-level universities.

Research direction:

After years of research and practice, the laboratory has focused on the main research directions:

·Basic optics:Photoelectric materials, theoretical optics, and micro-nano optical technology;

·Optical image:Medical optical imaging, imaging and display optics, and terahertz imaging technology;

·Spectral technology:Precision Spectral technology, high performance Spectral technology and terahertz Spectral technology.

Infrastructure:

The laboratory research base has developed greatly in recent years with the construction of laboratories and the funding of the school for its construction.At present, 12,000 square meters is used as a key laboratory area. In the past three years, the school has invested a total construction cost of about 90 million yuan.At present, the terahertz innovation laboratory has been built about 2,100 square meters, the new terahertz optical materials and devices laboratory:2,600 square meters, terahertz laser interference precision measurement laboratory:1900 square meters, terahertz biomedical imaging laboratory:2200 square meters.After years of laboratory construction, the laboratory can not only meet the experimental requirements of the original research direction, but also is developing to meet the experimental requirements of the new research direction of this discipline.The laboratory has a total of more than 160 million scientific research instruments and more than 100 sets of large-scale instruments and equipment of more than 300,000.

Team Make Up:

There are more than 80 fixed personnel in the laboratory, covering the interdisciplinary intersection of optics, materials, instruments, control, computers, etc., forming a research team full of innovative vitality and collaborative spirit led by academicians and various high-level talents. Among them, high-level talents include:2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 7 persons of national “Thousand Talents Program”, 2 persons of National Thousands youths, 3 specially-appointed professor of Ministry of Education’s Changjiang plan, 1 Young Changjiang Scholar, 1 gainer of National Outstanding Youth Fund, 4 peosons of New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, 1 national excellent doctoral thesis author, and 10 persons of 1000 Young Talent Plan of Shanghai.Among them, there are more than 30 doctoral tutors, more than 40% of those are graduates returned from abroad, and 60% of young people aged 25-39.The laboratory maintains a leading position in Shanghai, both in terms of faculty construction, scientific and technological project development, and acquisition of scientific research results, and has an advantage in China.

Acquired Honor (achievement):

Under the advocacy of "Made in China 2025" and "Belt and Road", the optical engineering discipline has ushered in a new round of promotion and development space. The Shanghai Key Laboratory of Modern Optical System conforms to the development of the times and continuously expands its research direction.The Interdisciplinary integration is increasing.

The optical engineering discipline covered by this laboratory is the earliest university in Shanghai to set up a doctoral program in optical engineering disciplines. It is in the leading position in the field of optical engineering in Shanghai and even the whole country. The discipline is listed as a national key discipline (cultivation). Shanghai Key Discipline, and obtained the post-doctoral mobile station qualification of optical engineering in 2007; won the “National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation” award in 2009, the first prize of China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Progress; in 2010, it won the 2007-2009 Shanghai Model Collective honorary title; in 2012 won the second prize of China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award, China International Industry Fair Excellent Exhibition Award; in 2013 won the "National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation" nomination award and China International Industry Fair Excellent Exhibition Award (Silver Award); in 2014, it won the title of “Worker Pioneer”, the third prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Machinery Industry Federation. In 2015, it won the third prize of Shanghai Technology Invention Award and the Science and Technology Award of Machinery Industry Federation.

In 2016, it won the second prize of the Science and Technology Award of the Machinery Industry Federation, a third prize and two awards of excellent exhibits of the China International Industry Fair.

In the 2017 National Science and Technology Week and “Research institutions and universities are open to the public” activities, they actively participated, meticulously organized and achieved remarkable results, and obtained the honorary certificates issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

In addition, the laboratory is also the director unit of the China Instrument and Control Society, and is the attached institution of National Optical and Photonics Standardization Technical Committee, the National Optical Society Engineering Optical Professional Committee, the China Instrument and Control Society Optical Instrument Branch, and the China Instrument and Meter Industry Association Optical Instrument Branch.
